The method

The Fan Engine.

You're sitting on more fandom than you can see, prove, or bank. The Fan Engine is the system I build to turn customers into fans, and to prove what they're worth.

Not the fit if what you need is a one-off spike this quarter. Fan-led growth compounds, which takes a few quarters, not a few weeks.

Four disciplines, one spine
01The method

Four disciplines. One spine.

I run all four disciplines as one connected engine, not four separate workstreams. Thirteen years across brand, product, community and growth means I see where growth leaks between the teams and close it, and put a number on every part, so what you build is something you can take to a board.

The Fan Engine
BrandThe foundation. Story, identity and the moments that create belonging.
ProductThe loops. Progression, rewards and onboarding: the habit that earns the next visit.
CommunityBelonging. The spaces and rituals that make fans part of something bigger.
GrowthAdvocacy. Belonging turned into reach: referrals, creators, UGC and earned media.
Measurement · the spineThe KPI tree that ties every part to a number
Growth that compounds, not spend that leaks.
02What it builds

What the engine builds for your customer.

The four disciplines move a customer from a first purchase to bringing others in, through five stages. Real people don’t climb them in a tidy line, so treat it as a map, not a formula.

  1. 01

    Activation.

A first win that makes someone glad they came.

  2. 02

    Habit.

A reason to come back on their own, without a discount every time.

  3. 03

    Belonging.

A real community, where fans are in it with each other and with you.

  4. 04

    Identity.

Where your brand becomes part of how a fan sees themselves.

  5. 05

    Advocacy.

Fans bringing you new customers, so your acquisition cost falls.

Advocacy feeds back to activation: the engine brings you new customers, so it grows itself.
03How I prove it

Measurable, and measured honestly.

Fan-led growth gets called unmeasurable. It isn’t. I set a baseline before I start, track real cohorts instead of last-click guesses, and I’m honest about what can’t be pinned down. No baseline, no claim.

The scoreboard: numbers you already track

You don’t need new fan metrics. Fan-led growth moves the ones your team already reports:

  • Retention upthe customers you paid for stay.
  • LTV:CAC upfans spend more, so each customer you buy is worth more.
  • Organic and earned growth upfans bring others and make the content that markets you.
  • Recommended by AI, upask an AI what to choose, and it answers from what your fans post.

When these move together, your paid spend compounds instead of leaking.

See where your engine stands

A short diagnostic shows you which part of your engine to build first.
